7 Air Conditioning Myths You Probably Still Believe

May 4, 2025

DEEPCHILL conducted in-depth research to understand the most common problems our customers face. We discovered that many of them struggle with questions such as:

  • Does setting the temperature lower cool the room faster?
  • Is installing an air conditioner too expensive?

These are just a few common air conditioning myths that many people still believe. So today, let’s unfold the common air conditioning myths and discover effective solutions to use your AC smarter.

1. Lower temperature to cool the room faster

Myth: Lots of people think that if you set the air conditioner to 16°C, the room will cool down faster.

Fact: Air conditioners cool at the same speed no matter what temperature you set. Turning it way down to a lower temperature doesn’t make it faster. It just makes the machine run longer and use more electricity. Over time, this can waste energy and cost you more money.

Solution: Aim for a comfortable level around 20°C to 22°C. If you want the room to feel cool faster, just turn on a fan to help spread the cool air around.

2. Close vents in unused room to save energy

Myth: Many people believe that closing the vents in rooms they don’t use will help save energy and make the AC work better.

Fact: But it actually makes things worse. Air conditioning systems are built to cool a certain amount of space. When you close vents, it messes up the airflow, adds pressure to the system and forces the AC to work harder.

Solution: Do not close vents! Keep the vents open to let the air flow properly through your home. If some areas feel too hot or too cold, try using a fan or think about adding a zoning system to balance it out.

3. Upgrade big air conditioner to enhance the cooling performance

Myth: Some people think upgrading to a big air conditioner will cool your home faster.

Fact: Bigger isn’t always better. If the air conditioner is too big for your space, it will turn on and off more often, waste more energy and leave the room feeling sticky.

Solution: Before you rush to upgrade big air conditioner, make sure you pick the right size for your space. A properly sized unit will cool your home evenly, save energy and keep you comfortable without the extra cost.

4. No need to maintenance AC regularly

Myth: Some people think skipping AC maintenance will save them money because it’s not really necessary.

Fact: Not doing regular maintenance can lead to AC running less efficiently, use more energy and even break down sooner than it should.

Solution: It’s much smarter to maintenance AC regularly once a year. Save budget for a yearly check-up to avoid unexpected problems.

5. Use air conditioning frequently, you will get a cold

Myth: Some people believe that using AC too much will make you get a cold.

Fact: AC itself doesn’t make you sick. In fact, modern air conditioners are designed to improve indoor air quality by filtering out dust, pet hair and even some bacteria. Problems may happen when the temperature is set too low or when the unit isn’t cleaned properly.

Solution: Don’t set the temperature too cold, especially at night. Try raising it by 1–2 degrees higher than your daytime setting. Also, check if your AC has a sleep mode to adjust the temperature gently while you sleep.

6. Fan mode helps cool a room

Myth: Many people think that turning on fan mode will help cool down the room.

Fact: Fans only move the air around and create a “wind-chill” effect, which makes you feel cooler but the air stays the same temperature.

Solution: To really cool a room, you need to use the AC’s cooling mode, which removes heat from the air and pushes it outside.

7. Install air conditioning is too expensive

Myth: Many people think installing AC costs too much.

Fact: Modern AC systems are more affordable than you might expect. A good installed system uses less energy, cools better, and saves you money over time.

Solution: Look for cost-effective packages that include both supply and installation. A quality system is a smart investment for comfort, better cooling and long-term savings.

Now we’ve cleared up some of the common air conditioning myths, you’re one step closer to making smarter, cooler choices for your home. Whether you need help fixing a tricky problem or getting a smooth installation, DEEPCHILL is here to support you from start to finish!
